Devante Hill

A Servant Leader, Rooted in West Tennessee

Devante R. Hill is an activist, author, veteran, and entrepreneur whose life's work has been defined by service, solutions, and a steadfast belief that faith and public responsibility can—and must—coexist.

Born and rooted in Memphis, Tennessee, Devante's leadership journey began long before public recognition. A retired U.S. veteran and committed Christian, he approaches every challenge with the conviction that problems are not obstacles to avoid, but responsibilities to steward.

His faith informs his work, grounding his leadership in humility, accountability, and a deep respect for human dignity.

Veteran and Public-Service Background

Devante is a retired U.S. veteran. In Congress, that service translates directly into policy: fixing delays and improving care at the VA, expanding mental health and PTSD services, and helping veterans transition into good-paying jobs, training, and stable housing.

Civil Rights and Public Safety

Nationally, Devante became a recognized voice during pivotal moments in American history. A photograph of him—mistakenly maced during the Freddie Gray protests in Baltimore—was later named one of the 50 most powerful images in U.S. history. During the COVID-era social justice movement, he was honored as a CNN Hero for leading peaceful demonstrations rooted not in destruction, but in dialogue, discipline, and reform.

Devante's advocacy has always extended beyond protest. Rather than working against institutions, he has consistently worked with stakeholders to reform them. During the George Floyd movement, he helped advocate for policy reforms that were later used to hold officers accountable in the death of Tyre Nichols. He also served on the board involved in hiring Memphis's first Black woman police chief, choosing collaboration over confrontation and helping reimagine public safety through partnership with law enforcement—not opposition to it.

Economic and Business Leadership

As a founder of One Memphis One Vision and Logistic Solution Global and Domestic Imports and Exports, Devante has translated advocacy into economic action. He scaled his family's logistics company by over 300%, ultimately acquiring the business and retiring his father—demonstrating firsthand what minority ownership, access to capital, and fair contracting can achieve. His work advocating for minority contracts in Shelby County has been publicly supported by Steve, reflecting Devante's ability to work across lines of authority to deliver results for underserved communities.

Today, Devante continues to focus on forward-looking solutions. He is leading the development of an electric vehicle charging station in downtown Memphis, working in government relations to re-shore a Chinese-based manufacturing company to the region, and serving as Government Relations Officer for Access411, advancing school safety and data-driven excellence nationwide. He has also contributed to the development of Yendo, a fintech platform backed by Mark Cuban, expanding access to credit through responsible, asset-based lending.
