Priority
Public Safety, Accountability, and Reentry
I've always been an activist. I've taken to the streets with a bullhorn to hold police accountable, and been pepper-sprayed while making sure our communities are protected, not targeted.
You should feel safe in your neighborhood. You should feel like the police are there to help you, not harass you. Sadly, that is not yet the case. At the same time, I know we need real solutions to keep our communities safe. We can protect our communities, respect civil rights, and work together to create solutions that actually make a difference.
Devante’s Plan
Public Safety & Accountability
- Incentivize best-practice policing standards
- Support officer training and recruitment
- Expand mental-health crisis response teams
- Increase transparency for federally funded departments
- Combat gun violence with common-sense policies
- Invest in violence prevention and community programs that work
Reentry & Second Chances
- Remove barriers to employment for nonviolent offenders
- Expand tax credits for businesses that hire returning citizens
- Increase workforce training and apprenticeship funding
- Improve access to housing after incarceration
Day One: ICE Accountability
- Call for a full and substantive investigation into ICE and its impact on our communities, so no family lives in fear of unaccountable enforcement
“Public safety works best when communities trust the people protecting them and every resident has a genuine pathway to stability.”
